. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm marla tellez. pope benedict xvi making his final appearance before he steps down. >> this is video of him arriving this morning in the famous pope mobile. tomorrow will be his last day before he retires. >> maryann was there to see the pope's final audience. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it's been an emotional send-off. the pope spoke to the crowd thanking them for his prayers. speaking of the joy and light of his papacy but at the same time recognizing there's been difficult times. he thanked them all for understanding this difficult decision to retire. it's just basically unheard of. it's been nearly 700 years that a pope has stepped down, walked away from the job. but he said being the pope means the courage to take difficult decisions. he was realistic, spoke of the turbulent seas and rough winds. realizing that the church is going through various stages of crises. perhaps 86 years old the pope didn't have the stamina to continue. >> all right. no way to tell exactly right now. what's the vibe out there of people feeling the uh new pope will be
